"Well shit."
That was the text I sent to my friend and Ole Miss graduate Emily on Monday afternoon when I woke up from my nap to the news that Auburn was really going to hire former Briarcrest and Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze.
This of course, coming five years after Freeze was forced out for using a university-issued cell phone to call escorts.
Which of course happened when the NCAA was already in Oxford snooping around for violations.
Not to mention the fact that while at Liberty, Freeze harassed a sexual assault victim in the DMs and oh yeah, while at Briarcrest, there were stories about his interactions with female students.
None of that apparently mattered to Auburn athletic director-in name only John Cohen.
That's right, I said athletic director-in name only.
Because I'm convinced this wasn't a hire Cohen himself made.
The truth of the matter is this, Auburn hiring Hugh Freeze because he beat Alabama in back-to-back seasons is akin to what Kentucky did in 2007 when they hired Billy Gillispie from Texas A&M because he beat Louisville in the NCAA Tournament.
Two years later, that move would backfire in Lexington.
